Trip Detail Info

Gyeongbokgung Palace

Gyeongbokgung Palace - National Folk Museum - Bukchon Hanok Village

Meet your guide in front of the old Seoul City Hall building, which is now used as a library. After a 10 minute walk, you'll arrive at Gwanghwamun Gate, the main gate of Gyeongbokgung Palace. Here, your expert guide will tell you about the history of the Joseon Dynasty and about the traditional architecture used when building Gyeongbokgung Palace. As you move through the Palace complex, you will be able to see amazing wooden buildings built in the year 1395 by great architects.

Next, you will visit the National Folk Museum of Korea which is located on the palace grounds. A unique feature of this museum is its open-air exhibits where you will be able to view over 98,000 artifacts to experience the history of the Korean people from their everyday lives during prehistoric times through the end of the Joseon Dynasty in 1910. The museum also explores how a strong Confucian belief system has given rise to many Korean customs today.

After spending 2 hours on the Palace grounds, your guide will then take you to Bukchon Hanok Village for an hour-long walking tour through Samcheongdong alley. This alley sits between the two palaces of the Joseon Dynasty, Gyeongbokgung Palace, and Changdeokgung Palace. Unlike other Hanok (traditional Korean house) villages, Bukchon was not created for tourists. It is a living village inhabited by Seoulites, comprised of about 900 Hanok spread across the district. Here, you can visit traditional residential houses and learn about Korean lifestyles, both present and past.

After your time at Bukchon Hanok Village, your guide will take you to Anguk Station where your tour concludes.

Admire South Korea’s palace architecture and learn about life in the country’s capital on this 3-hour Gyeongbokgung Palace and Bukchon Hanok Village walking tour.
